Bach Around The Clock

Bach Around The Clock

All Bach. All Free. All Welcome.

A message from Artistic Director, Kathleen Otterson

Honoring Marika Fischer Hoyt

Bach Around The Clock owes its current presence in Madison to Marika Fischer Hoyt, who revived the dormant festival in 2017 and served as its artistic director from 2017- 2022.
Marika made many outstanding contributions to Madison’s music community: she was a member of the Madison Symphony Orchestra viola section for over 20 years; she co-founded the Ancora String Quartet and the “Just Bach” series; she was a founding member of Madison Bach Musicians and Sonata a Quattro; and a member of the board of the Madison Early Music Festival. Marika also performed with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and hosted classical music programming on WPR. She passed in February 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer.

A campaign has begun to endow and name a Viola Section chair in the Madison Symphony Orchestra in memory of Marika. Such a gift assures that funding will be available to support the position in perpetuity, and the honoree is recognized in all MSO programs. Bach Around The Clock has made a significant contribution to this campaign, and we encourage our supporters and participants to do the same. BATC would not be what it is today without Marika’s passion for it and hard work to create it.
